Here I am, feeling a fresh wave of motivation. Let’s get this straight – motivation doesn’t stay constant, it ebbs and flows. That doesn’t mean we’re not genuinely committed to our goals, it just means we’ve to be vigilant, just like a thermostat and keep it in check.
I’ve found a few things exceptionally beneficial to keep my morale up
- writing down my goals on a post it and looking at it everyday in the morning +/- before bed.
- Journaling about my goal and how it is important to me.
- Drawing energy from the success of others who have reached similar milestones.
- Continuously feeding my mind with relevant content.
- Having a mentor for guidance and regular check-ins.
There’s a long list of goals that I didn’t work on for one reason or another. But, when it came down to the things I genuinely needed to do – like a course or a certification – I did it. We can usually do much more than we think we can, if we really think it is important and worth it.
Update on my workout
I’m staying tough. I am surprised by how much more I can lift. I realized in the gym that i was that person, the fat one. I was proud of myself for trying. We often ignore the journey and appraise people solely on their outcomes. I think this process counts. The effort I put in today is in no way inferior to the effor I will put in after I have a healthier body composition. It still counts and probably more so because its harder in some ways yet easier in others. Harder on me physically but comes easily since I have a greater motivation to change.
On the writing front: I want to keep refining my skills and create a targeted list of areas to concentrate on:
- Sentence crafting.
- Infusing aesthetics – through similes, metaphors etc.
- Dialogue writing.
- Storytelling.
Yes, it’s a journey, and I’m right in the middle of it!
